magicui-animated-grid-pattern

background-effectaurora-meshmotion on file

A client-side React SVG background that measures its container and cycles randomly placed grid cells through opacity animations. It ships as a shadcn registry TSX file and depends on Motion, Tailwind utility classes, ResizeObserver, and the shared cn helper imported through the usual project alias.

Verdict

A solid decorative effect for an existing shadcn-style React stack, with clean SVG output and useful controls. It needs a shadcn-style setup because the bare project cannot resolve its shared cn utility; teams willing to supply that small piece should find it straightforward to adopt.

Use it if

  • You want a decorative animated grid behind a hero, card, or empty state.
  • Your React app already uses Tailwind and has the standard shadcn utility alias.
  • You need the grid geometry, density, timing, and opacity to remain configurable through props.

Skip it if

  • You need a static background or must minimize client-side animation work.
  • Your project does not use Tailwind and you do not want to translate its utility classes.
  • You need deterministic cell placement for screenshots, branding, or synchronized motion.
  • Your target environment lacks ResizeObserver or cannot run a client-side React component.

In a non-shadcn project, add Motion and Tailwind, configure the at-sign source alias, and provide a cn class-merging helper at the imported utility path. Keep it in a client-rendered React boundary and place it inside a positioned container with explicit dimensions.
