magicui-dot-pattern

background-effectaurora-mesh

A client-side React SVG that fills its container with a configurable dot grid and can optionally animate each dot with Motion. It ships as a shadcn registry TypeScript component and expects Tailwind utility classes, the Motion React package, and the usual aliased cn helper.

Verdict

A flexible decorative background with clean accessibility behavior and responsive rendering. It needs a shadcn-style setup before it will build, chiefly because the source imports the conventional aliased utility helper. The optional glow also brings Motion and many SVG nodes, so use the static mode when animation adds little.

Use it if

  • You need a decorative dot field that inherits color and can be positioned behind existing content.
  • Your React app already uses Tailwind and Motion, and you want static and glowing variants from one component.
  • You want spacing, offsets, and dot radius exposed as component props.

Skip it if

  • Your page cannot run a client component or attach a window resize listener.
  • You want a dependency-free CSS background rather than an SVG with one rendered circle per grid point.
  • You need deterministic glowing animation, since timing values are randomized during rendering.

In a non-shadcn project, add Tailwind CSS and Motion for React, create a cn class-merging helper, and either configure the at-sign source alias to resolve the utility import or replace it with a relative path. Keep the component client-side and place it inside a positioned container with an explicit usable size.
