magicui-hexagon-pattern

background-effectdark-futuristic

A copy-in React and TypeScript SVG background from Magic UI's shadcn registry. It renders a configurable repeating hexagon grid, including optional highlighted cells and dashed strokes. It has no added package dependency, but assumes Tailwind utility classes and the @/lib/utils cn helper.

Verdict

The component works cleanly in the configured harness and offers unusually flexible SVG geometry for a decorative background. It needs a shadcn-style setup before it will build in a bare app because its utility helper import is assumed.

Use it if

  • You need a decorative honeycomb background that can stretch across a responsive section.
  • You want to tune orientation, spacing, stroke treatment, or highlighted cells through component props.
  • Your React project already follows shadcn conventions and uses Tailwind CSS.

Skip it if

  • Your project avoids Tailwind or does not use the shadcn utility and path-alias conventions.
  • A simple static CSS background would meet the design with less component code.
  • You need an interactive or semantic grid rather than a decorative SVG hidden from assistive technology.

Add Tailwind CSS with the referenced utility classes, create a cn class-merging helper at src/lib/utils, and configure the @ alias to src. Otherwise replace the helper and utilities with local equivalents. React and TypeScript support are also required.
