Measured entry
magicui-light-rays
background-effectaurora-meshmotion on file
A client-side React background layer that creates randomized, softly swinging light beams with Motion and CSS gradients. It ships as a shadcn registry component, uses Tailwind utility classes and the shared cn helper, and needs no provider. Its absolute layout is intended to sit inside a positioned container.

What the harness recorded
BARE BUILD
✗ Build failed in 30.34s error during build: [vite:load-fallback] Could not load <sandbox>/src/lib/utils (imported by src/cut/light-rays.tsx): ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '<sandbox>/src/lib/utils'
Verdict
A polished but very subtle dark-surface accent with useful controls and clean verified behavior. Adopt it when Motion is already justified. It needs a shadcn-style setup because the standalone build cannot resolve the shared cn utility.
Use it if
- You need a restrained animated atmosphere behind a dark hero, banner, or feature panel.
- Your project already uses Tailwind, the shadcn utility convention, and Motion.
- You want to tune the ray color, blur, pace, length, or density through component props.
Skip it if
- You need deterministic visuals, since ray placement and timing are randomized in the browser.
- Your motion policy requires a built-in reduced-motion fallback or pause control.
- You want a dependency-light decorative background and do not otherwise use Motion.
- Your design is primarily light-surfaced, where the screen-blended rays may be too faint.
Install
| Declared dependencies | motion |
|---|---|
| Missing on install | none |
| Bare install | fails once the shadcn-style helpers are removed, so it needs that setup |
| Provider | no provider required in the harness |
In a non-shadcn project, install Motion, provide a cn class-merging helper or replace that call, configure the @ alias if retaining the import, and ensure Tailwind processes the component's utility classes. Place it inside a positioned container with defined dimensions and clipping.
