Measured entry
magicui-particles
background-effectaurora-meshmotion on file
A client-only React background effect that draws drifting, pointer-responsive particles on a canvas and runs them through an ongoing animation loop. It ships as a shadcn registry component, uses Tailwind utility classes, and imports the project-local cn helper backed by clsx and tailwind-merge.

What the harness recorded
BARE BUILD
✗ Build failed in 727ms error during build: [vite:load-fallback] Could not load <sandbox>re-c0d24d025187/src/lib/utils (imported by src/cut/particles.tsx): ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '<sandbox>re-c0d24d025187/src/lib/utils'
Verdict
A capable, configurable canvas backdrop that builds and mounts cleanly in its intended environment, with no reported accessibility violations. It needs a shadcn-style setup and does not mount bare; narrow layouts also need deliberate overflow containment.
Use it if
- You need a decorative particle field behind a hero or other bounded section.
- Your React app already has Tailwind and a shadcn-style cn utility.
- You want configurable particle density, color, drift, and pointer response without adding a canvas library.
Skip it if
- Your layout must remain overflow-free on narrow screens without extra containment work.
- You need a static or reduced-motion-first background with no continuous canvas loop.
- You want a dependency-free drop-in for a plain React project.
- The added client bundle cost is hard to justify for a purely decorative effect.
Install
| Declared dependencies | clsx, tailwind-merge |
|---|---|
| Missing on install | none |
| Bare install | fails once the shadcn-style helpers are removed, so it needs that setup |
| Provider | no provider required in the harness |
In a non-shadcn project, add clsx and tailwind-merge, create the cn helper under the expected lib alias or change the import, configure that alias, and provide Tailwind equivalents for the sizing and pointer-event utility classes. Keep it in a client-rendered boundary.
