motion-primitives-glow-effect

background-effectgradient-glowmotion on file

A client-side React overlay that animates configurable gradients behind another element, with rotate, pulse, breathing, color-shift, flow, and static modes. It ships as a shadcn registry TypeScript file and depends on Motion for React, Tailwind utility classes, and the conventional cn helper imported through the project alias.

Verdict

A flexible, verified gradient overlay for teams already using the expected stack. It mounts cleanly in the prepared harness, but the bare failure confirms it needs a shadcn-style setup rather than copy-and-run use in an arbitrary React project.

Use it if

  • You need a reusable animated halo behind cards, buttons, focus areas, or dark hero content.
  • Your React app already uses Tailwind, a cn class-merging helper, and Motion.
  • You want control over colors, blur, scale, timing, and animation mode through props.

Skip it if

  • Your product avoids perpetual decorative motion or requires reduced-motion behavior without adapting the component.
  • You need a self-contained effect that works without Tailwind utilities and a project alias.
  • You cannot justify adding Motion for a decorative background effect.

In a non-shadcn project, install Motion, provide a cn class-merging utility, configure the project alias used by the import or replace it with a local path, and ensure Tailwind recognizes the utility classes. Place the effect inside a relatively positioned container and add your own reduced-motion treatment if required.
