motion-primitives-text-shimmer-wave

text-effectgradient-glowmotion on file

A client-side React text effect shipped as a TypeScript registry component. It splits a string into individual spans, then uses Motion to loop color, depth, position, scale, and rotation across the letters. It also depends on Tailwind utility classes and a project-local cn helper imported through the usual shadcn alias.

Verdict

A focused, configurable accent for short display text, and the verified configured harness renders it cleanly. It needs a shadcn-style setup because the bare project cannot resolve the local cn utility import. Adopt it when Motion is already justified, not solely for this flourish.

Use it if

  • You want a looping wave shimmer for a short headline, status, or promotional phrase.
  • Your React app already uses Motion, Tailwind utilities, and a shadcn-style cn helper.
  • You need control over the rendered element, timing, spread, movement, scale, rotation, and transition.
  • You are comfortable limiting the effect to short strings so each character can animate independently.

Skip it if

  • You need static or reduced-motion-first text without adding your own motion preference handling.
  • You are animating long copy where one animated element per character would be excessive.
  • Your project does not use Tailwind and you do not want to translate the utility classes.
  • You want a standalone package component with no local utility alias or source integration.

In a non-shadcn project, install Motion, provide Tailwind with dark-mode support, and add a compatible cn class-merging helper at the expected alias or replace that import. Keep the client directive in frameworks that separate server and client components, and add reduced-motion behavior if your product requires it.
