ruixen-cloud-background

background-effectunclassified

A client-side React canvas that renders flowing cloud bands with an OGL WebGL shader and continuously updates them with an animation loop. It ships as a shadcn registry component, uses utility classes through the cn helper, watches its parent for size changes, and accepts explicit theme and render-quality props.

Verdict

A credible drop-in for shader-backed atmosphere, with clean mounting and responsive sizing in the prepared harness. It needs a shadcn-style setup because the bare project cannot resolve its shared utility import. Budget for the OGL dependency and add your own motion fallback.

Use it if

  • You want an ambient full-bleed backdrop behind readable page or hero content.
  • Your React app already has WebGL-capable clients and can accommodate a continuous render loop.
  • You need a decorative canvas that can switch between an explicitly supplied light or dark treatment.

Skip it if

  • You need a static background with minimal runtime work or no GPU dependency.
  • Your layout cannot provide a positioned parent with a definite rendered height.
  • You require built-in reduced-motion handling or automatic theme detection.
  • You need the effect to remain meaningful when WebGL is unavailable.

Providerno provider required in the harness

In a non-shadcn project, install OGL, provide a cn class-merging helper at the expected utility alias or replace that import, and ensure the utility classes are available. Render it inside a positioned container with an explicit height, and add reduced-motion and WebGL fallback behavior if your product requires them.
