fancy-stacking-cards

scroll-effect3dmotion on file

A client-side React compound component that turns a vertical card sequence into a sticky, scroll-driven stack with progressive scaling. It ships as a shadcn registry TypeScript file and depends on Motion, Tailwind utility classes, React context, and the usual cn helper imported through the project alias.

Verdict

A focused effect with a clear compound API, suitable for editorial or feature storytelling when the motion earns its cost. It builds and mounts in the prepared harness, but the bare failure shows it needs a shadcn-style setup, specifically the aliased cn utility, before it can compile elsewhere.

Use it if

  • You need a narrative card sequence whose layers accumulate as the reader scrolls.
  • Your app already uses Tailwind, Motion, and shadcn-style aliases and utilities.
  • You want control over each card's content, index, top position, and scaling behavior.

Skip it if

  • You need a lightweight card list without adding Motion and its associated bundle cost.
  • Your content must remain compact rather than reserving enough vertical space for sticky stacking.
  • Your design system does not use Tailwind utilities or a shadcn-style cn helper.
  • You want a single component that accepts an items array instead of composing indexed child items.

In a non-shadcn project, install Motion, provide React client-component support, configure the project alias, add a compatible cn class-merging helper, and ensure Tailwind supplies the sticky, sizing, positioning, and transform-origin utilities used by the source. Alternatively, replace the aliased helper import with your local equivalent.
