ruixen-checkbox-tree
selectunclassifiedmotion on file
A client-side React and TypeScript checkbox tree shipped as a shadcn registry file. It supports controlled or uncontrolled selection, recursively toggles descendants, and animates branch disclosure. It relies on Tailwind utility classes, Motion, and a local cn helper backed by clsx and tailwind-merge.

Verdict
A compact fit for modest nested selectors, with clear selection behavior and working responsive rendering. It needs a shadcn-style setup to mount, and the unnamed disclosure controls plus visual-only mixed state should be fixed before production use.
Use it if
- You need nested checkbox selection where choosing a branch should include all of its descendants.
- Your React app already uses Tailwind and a shadcn-style source-copy workflow.
- You want controlled selection through a value array and a change callback, or a simple uncontrolled default.
Skip it if
- You need production-ready accessibility without modifying the component, since the disclosure buttons have no accessible names and mixed checkbox state is only visual.
- You need externally controlled expansion, lazy-loaded branches, or virtualization for a large tree.
- You want a dependency-light static tree and do not need animated disclosure.
Install
| Declared dependencies | motion, clsx, tailwind-merge |
|---|---|
| Missing on install | none |
| Bare install | fails once the shadcn-style helpers are removed, so it needs that setup |
| Provider | no provider required in the harness |
In a non-shadcn project, add Tailwind styling, install Motion, clsx, and tailwind-merge, configure the at-sign source alias, and provide a lib/utils module exporting cn. Add accessible names to disclosure buttons and expose mixed checkbox state to assistive technology.
