shadcn-input

inputunclassified

A thin React wrapper around the native input element, shipped as a TypeScript registry file. It forwards standard input props and supplies Tailwind classes for theme tokens, focus, invalid, disabled, file-input, and dark states. It imports the shadcn cn class-merging utility and assumes the surrounding Tailwind theme exists.

BARE BUILD

Verdict

A dependable base input for an existing shadcn codebase, but not a self-contained field component. The bare test does not mount, so it needs a shadcn-style setup with the expected utility and theme wiring.

Use it if

  • Your app already follows shadcn conventions and needs a consistent base input.
  • You want native input behavior with styling that remains easy to override through className.
  • Your design system already defines the referenced color and radius tokens.

Skip it if

  • You need a complete field abstraction with a label, help text, validation message, or form binding.
  • Your project does not use Tailwind or shadcn theme tokens and you do not want to recreate that styling layer.
  • You need specialized input behavior such as masking, formatting, or composed controls.

In a non-shadcn project, add the cn class-merging helper, configure the import alias, enable Tailwind, and define the referenced theme tokens and dark-state conventions. Otherwise, replace the helper import and translate the utility classes into your styling system.
