kibo-theme-switcher

switchminimal-flatmotion on file

A client-side segmented theme selector for system, light, and dark modes, shipped as a shadcn registry TSX component. It supports controlled or default state and calls an onChange handler, but does not apply or persist the theme itself. It depends on Radix controllable state, Lucide icons, Motion, Tailwind theme classes, and a cn utility alias.

Verdict

A polished selector for an existing theme system, with clean controlled-state support and no observed runtime or accessibility issues in the prepared harness. It is not standalone and needs a shadcn-style setup; choose it when its Motion dependency and client-only rendering fit the app.

Use it if

  • You already have theme application and persistence logic and only need a compact selector UI.
  • Your app uses shadcn conventions, Tailwind theme tokens, and the standard cn helper.
  • You need controlled and uncontrolled selection modes with an animated active indicator.

Skip it if

  • You need a drop-in switch that changes the document theme and saves the preference.
  • You want to avoid adding Motion for a small settings control.
  • Your project does not use Tailwind theme tokens or shadcn-style import aliases.
  • You need a visible server-rendered control before client hydration completes.

In a non-shadcn project, install the Radix controllable-state package, Lucide React, and Motion. Add or replace the cn utility import, provide equivalent Tailwind layout and color tokens, and connect onChange to your theme application and persistence layer.
