Measured entry
magicui-progressive-blur
hover-effect3dmotion on file
A client-side React component shipped as a Magic UI shadcn registry item. It layers absolutely positioned, masked backdrop filters to create a graduated blur at the top, bottom, or both edges of a container. It uses Tailwind utility classes and an aliased cn helper backed by clsx and tailwind-merge.

What the harness recorded
BARE BUILD
✗ Build failed in 716ms error during build: [vite:load-fallback] Could not load <sandbox>re-ec658e019127/src/lib/utils (imported by src/cut/progressive-blur.tsx): ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '<sandbox>re-ec658e019127/src/lib/utils'
Verdict
A focused visual utility that builds and mounts cleanly in the configured harness. It needs a shadcn-style setup because a bare project lacks the imported cn utility. The narrow demo also overflows, so verify container sizing before shipping it responsively.
Use it if
- You need a passive edge fade over scrollable media, cards, or content without intercepting pointer input.
- Your React app already has Tailwind and a shadcn-style cn utility.
- You want configurable blur steps and top, bottom, or dual-edge placement.
Skip it if
- You need the effect to work in browsers where backdrop filtering or CSS masking is unavailable.
- Your layout cannot provide a positioned, clipped container for the absolute overlay.
- You need a drop-in component for a narrow viewport without checking container overflow.
- You want a single lightweight CSS fade instead of several stacked filter layers.
Install
| Declared dependencies | clsx, tailwind-merge |
|---|---|
| Missing on install | none |
| Bare install | fails once the shadcn-style helpers are removed, so it needs that setup |
| Provider | no provider required in the harness |
In a non-shadcn project, add Tailwind CSS, configure the at-sign source alias, and create lib/utils with a cn helper using clsx and tailwind-merge. Keep the client directive where server components are supported, and place the overlay inside a relatively positioned container with overflow clipping.
