Measured entry
shadcn-block-calendar-14
A client-side React date picker that demonstrates a selected date alongside a run of booked, disabled days marked with a strike-through. It ships as a shadcn registry block and composes the shared Calendar and Button primitives, React DayPicker, date-fns, Lucide icons, Radix Slot, the cn utility, and Tailwind theme conventions.

BARE BUILD
✗ Build failed in 36.01s error during build: [vite:load-fallback] Could not load <sandbox>/src/lib/utils (imported by src/components/ui/calendar.tsx): ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '<sandbox>/src/lib/utils'
Verdict
A focused, credible example with clean mounting, responsive behavior, and automated accessibility results in the prepared harness. Bare use fails because the shared cn utility is missing, so it needs a shadcn-style setup. The dependency cost is notable for a narrow date-picker example.
Use it if
- You need a compact single-date picker that clearly marks booked days as unavailable.
- Your app already uses shadcn primitives, Tailwind theme tokens, and the cn utility.
- You want React DayPicker behavior with selection state kept in the surrounding component.
Skip it if
- You need appointment times, recurring events, drag interactions, or a full scheduling workflow.
- Your project does not use Tailwind or shadcn conventions and you do not want to recreate their utility and theme layer.
- You need booked dates to remain selectable or to open availability details rather than act as disabled days.
Install
| Declared dependencies | react-day-picker@latest, date-fns, @radix-ui/react-slot |
|---|---|
| Missing on install | none |
| Bare install | fails once the shadcn-style helpers are removed, so it needs that setup |
| Provider | no provider required in the harness |
In a non-shadcn project, install React DayPicker, date-fns, Lucide React, and Radix Slot. Add compatible Calendar and Button primitives, a cn class-merging helper, Tailwind utilities and theme variables, then replace the registry aliases with local import paths. Render it in a client-capable React environment.
