Measured entry

originui-comp-99

tooltipminimal-flat

A compact add-item icon button with a hover and focus tooltip. It ships as a client-side shadcn registry component that composes Origin UI button and tooltip wrappers, with Radix providing tooltip behavior, Lucide supplying the plus icon, and utility classes handling presentation.

Verdict

A sensible, accessible micro-pattern for an existing Origin UI or shadcn codebase. It renders cleanly across the tested layouts, but the generic tooltip copy needs customization and it needs a shadcn-style setup rather than working as a bare drop-in.

Use it if

  • You need an icon-only add action whose meaning is reinforced on hover or keyboard focus.
  • Your app already uses shadcn-style registry components, path aliases, and shared utility classes.
  • You want Radix tooltip behavior while retaining control over the trigger button styling.

Skip it if

  • You need a touch-first explanation that must remain available without hover or keyboard focus.
  • Your project avoids Radix and Lucide for a dependency-light one-off control.
  • You need a reusable tooltip API rather than a fixed add button with placeholder tooltip copy.

In a non-shadcn project, add the Radix-backed tooltip primitives, a compatible button component, Lucide React, the configured import alias, the shared class-merging utility used by the button, and the utility-class styling pipeline. Replace the registry import paths with local paths.
